WHAT ARE THE CONS TO SELLING AVON?

Congratulations! You have decided to research the Cons To Selling Avon.

Many people skip this important step.

They spend there money. Get excited about starting their own business. Then realize its not for them.

Take the Cons to selling Avon and decide if you can handle it.

When your finished, check out the "Pros to selling Avon". For some Avon Representatives, the Pros to selling Avon Products outweigh the Cons.

Make sure you check them all before making a decision.

Being an Avon Representative Can Be Costly

This is a problem only if you make it a problem. Going into a business you always have to budget and think ahead.

When starting out some new Avon Representatives will go shopping.

There adrenaline is pumping and they are ready to sell.

So what do they do?

They buy as many catalogs and samples as they can.

Bad idea? Just like any business, you have to size up your supply and demand.

Would if you have rushed into things and don't have a customer yet? Then what are you going to do with all of those catalogs?

O.K., O.K, But what about the samples? Sure you can always use samples.

WRONG! If you are just starting out, how are you going to know which samples will get your sales, and which ones will not?

Don't waste money on samples that won't create sales.

Another way new Avon Representatives mess up, is they want to buy all that Avon sells to promote there business. For example, Avon's plastic door hanger bags.

I am sure you can come up with cheaper ways to promote your business. If not, we have plenty of ideas to go around.

Avon Representative Fee's

Many will argue with the fees Avon demands. Some will say it is a business and businesses are not free.

Others will say that Avon is trying to rip you off. Its your choice what you want to believe, I just provide the information.

To name a few:

  • 75 cent charge per customer

  • $2.50 order processing fee per campaign

  • $7.00 late fees

  • $5.00 Return fee

I will write on these fees more in detail later. I just wanted to give you heads up.

Can you sell Avon Products and resist over spending?

This is where a lot of new Avon Representatives go wrong. The reason why they want to sell is to get the discount that Avon provides.

Big cons to selling Avon Products is that you can overspend.

Each campaign your going to get your colorful brochures, filled with the newest greatest products.

Can you handle that?

Territories, Territories, Territories

This is probably one of the hardest Cons to Selling Avon to overcome. Well, it all depends on your location.

There are a lot of Avon Representatives out here. It can sometimes be hard to run across untouched areas.

Since everyone is selling it could be hard to sell.

I know you have heard about new Avon Representatives being scared away from the Big Bad Wolf.

You have just signed up to become an Avon Representative and you are beginning to advertise.

You notice your brochures walking away or found stashed in the trash can. It must be the Big Bad Wolf.

Yes this does happen.Territories do not exist, but in some cases you can step on someone's feet.

There are Avon Representatives that have been doing it for a while and have developed clientele.

They have worked very hard to establish a relationship and business in a certain area.

Some don't take it lightly when some newbie come trying to put there hand in there pockets.

That being said, it can be a problem.

Talk to them about it and try to resolve the issue. You can even contact your district manager to sort it out.

I personally wouldn't care if someone claimed a territory. If they are nice about it, I will respect them. If they are being evil, I would just keep on selling.

That's not right for everyone, but there are no territories.

However, I think there are territories in other countries than America.

So just be nice and try to work it out respectfully.

Don't leave just yet! There are more Cons to Selling Avon.

What happened to the 50% commission?

This is one of the worse cons to selling Avon in my opinion.

Yes, Avon motivates the fact that it can make you so much money you can quit your day job.

Don't be too quick to do that.

I am sure you have heard of Avon Representatives making over 6 figures a year. While that may be true.

It all depends on if you prepare yourself.

In order to make that much money, you have to have a solid Avon Representative Plan With a solid plan the cons to selling Avon Products will become smaller.

You have to sell well over $1,000 every campaign to get the 40 to 50% commission. That's every two weeks. That's hard work.

I know Avon Representatives that can pull it off. They work in big office buildings or are well connected.

They don't have a problem reaching $1500+ a campaign.

For the stay at home mom, that may be a little different.

Make sure you are well aware that the less you sell, the lower your commission.

Of course there are other ways you can make money with Avon.

In order to get the BIG commission you have to sell, sell, sell.

How much is gas again?

If you have to drive all around the world to deliver your goods, it can take money from your profits.

You have to consider this when getting new clients.

  • Is it really worth the sale if they live a ways away?

  • Would if they are not at home and you have to keep tracking them down?

  • Would if they don't have the money right now and you have to come back?
Consider gas when getting clients.

Would if the customer doesn't have the money?

Out of all the cons to selling Avon Products, I'm sure this irritates Avon Representatives the most.

When people see the shiny new brochure, they have a tendency to impulse shop.

Great if they gave you the money upfront.

Bad, if they bought the whole book and two weeks later don't want it anymore.

They could also say they can pay you on a different date. Regardless you have a deadline.

Customers can be a trip. Can you handle it?

A good way to solve this problem is to just get money upfront.

This may hurt your sales, but as you get to know people, then you could start letting people have credit.

Why do I feel like a beggar?

This is major issue to some and very minor to others.

Can you handle people brushing you off like a beggar?

Can you deal with having to keep going to the same people asking for them to place orders?

Sometimes you may feel like an overbearing friend or relative.

It can be hard to keep asking them to order too. On the flip side they may harass you.

Your family members and friends can get mad, because your not giving them samples or discounts.

Like I said it doesn't bother some.

You can adjust your sales pitch and make it sound natural, but are you willing to work at it?
